Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service and CIAT Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen the Exchange of Tax Information
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, during the 60th General Assembly of CIAT, held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service and the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening international cooperation in tax matters.
The agreement reflects both institutions’ commitment to developing innovative solutions that contribute to strengthening information exchange among tax administrations, an essential component for improving the transparency and effectiveness of tax administration at the international level.

Through this memorandum, Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) is making available to CIAT a library of open-source tools for validating tax identification numbers. This technology will be incorporated and expanded within a regional solution led by CIAT, with the aim of facilitating more secure, efficient, and standardized processes in the exchange of tax information.
The initiative will initially benefit CIAT member countries and, at a later stage, may be extended to the international community, promoting best practices and greater cooperation among tax administrations.

The signing of this agreement reaffirms the importance of technical collaboration and joint efforts among institutions to address the current challenges facing tax administrations in an increasingly digital and interconnected environment.
