A seminar on tax base erosion and profit shifting in the mining sector was held on November 18 – 21, 2019 in Bogota, Colombia. This event was organized by the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development – IGF, the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations – CIAT, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – OECD and Externado de Colombia University.

The participants in this event were 32 officials from tax administrations, ministries of finance and public entities regulators of the mining sector from 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as international experts and representatives of IGF, OECD, CIAT and Externado de Colombia University.

The activity achieved great relevance on promoting the discussion of complex issues dealing with the tax control of mining sector businesses, which calls for getting to know the value chain of the businesses of the sector. The added value was the possibility of generating exchanges among tax and mining business experts. Likewise, during the seminar the latest OECD and CIAT achievements in transfer pricing control were presented, such as aspects related to the value chain of the sector and its tax risks, in particular, the analysis of transfer pricing  in mining businesses, as well as aspects of tax treaties and incentives.  In addition, practical group exercises were carried out.

The CIAT Executive Secretariat hereby expresses its gratitude to the co-sponsors for their cooperation and support, as well as to the participants, for actively taking part in the event.
