CIAT, IDB and OECD hold regional conference on tax trends and challenges in Latin America
CIAT in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), held a virtual Regional Conference on Taxation Trends and Challenges in Latin America on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The webinar brought together close to 400 participants, mainly tax administration officials across Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering a dynamic exchange of perspectives and experiences on critical taxation topics.
Discussions focused on key international tax trends including: the implementation of global minimum tax rules and what this means for tax incentives, measuring tax expenditures in Latin America, the relationship between taxation and inequality, and recent developments in indirect taxation. The conference also provided an interactive space for participants to engage directly with experts and peers. The use of artificial intelligence in tax administration, particularly regarding data governance, ethical considerations, and its potential to enhance compliance, was one of the issues that generated the most interest and discussion.
The presentations are available for the participants and tax administration officials through the OECD ONE portal.
CIAT extends its sincere appreciation to its partners, IDB and OECD, for their valuable collaboration in organizing this event, as well as to the correspondents of it’s member countries who disseminated the invitation throughout their organizations.
