The CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio Verdi, participated in the IX National Seminar on Municipal Tax Management organized by the Tax Auditors Association of the São Paulo Municipality – AAFIT / SP, which was held in São Paulo on May 24 – 26, 2017. On that occasion, Mr. Verdi made a presentation on the Autonomy of the Tax Administrations as factor for improving the latter’s efficiency and effectiveness.

The appraisal of the tax administration, adequate systems for tax examination and tax reform were the main topics discussed in the event. The participants included international guests and over 360 officials from 70 Brazilian municipalities, such as national tax auditors, attorneys, economists, tax experts, and academicians, who shared their experiences and best practices for improving the tax administration activities, including systems developed for this purpose, successful procedures and juridical-tax aspects.

The Chairman of the Tax Auditors Association of the São Paulo Municipality – AAFIT / SP, stated that “the exchange of experiences among tax auditors contributes to disseminate best practices in the Tax Administrations, thereby improving the technical capacity of these professionals”.
