CIAT and SAR Analyze Trends, Opportunities, and Challenges for Tax Administrations
Tegucigalpa, Honduras, September 9, 2026. As part of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations’ (CIAT) official visit to Honduras, its Executive Secretary, Márcio F. Verdi, along with the CIAT team, held a discussion with the directors of the Revenue Administration Service (SAR) at the institution’s offices located in the Government Civic Center (CCG).
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the major global and regional trends that are transforming the management of tax administrations, using as a reference the document “Opportunities and Challenges for Tax Administrations,” which was prepared following the CIAT Meeting of Tax Administrators held in Montevideo in 2025
During the roundtable discussion, participants addressed the main challenges and opportunities identified in five strategic areas: human resources, technology, risk management, institutional management, and the tax system, as well as their relationship to the current challenges facing tax administrations. https://www.ciat.org/opportunities-and-challenges-for-tax-administrations-ciat-tax-administrators-meeting-2025/?lang=en
Among the topics discussed were digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence, strengthening human capital and skills, data quality and utilization, risk management, process simplification, and building the trust of citizens and taxpayers.
The exchange with the SAR directors made it possible to compare these trends with the reality and perspectives of the Honduran tax administration, identifying opportunities to continue strengthening its institutional capacities.
This initiative reaffirms the commitment of CIAT and SAR to the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices aimed at promoting modern, efficient tax administrations that are prepared to respond to current and future challenges
