CIAT’s Meeting of Tax Administrators in Montevideo concludes successfully.

Montevideo, Uruguay – October 17, 2025. The Meeting of Tax Administrators of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), held on October 15-17 in Montevideo, Uruguay, concluded with remarkable success. The event brought together the highest tax authorities of the member countries, who shared experiences, analyzed shared challenges and reinforced the commitment to international cooperation and technical dialogue as pillars for strengthening tax systems.
The program was developed in three days:
- Day 1: The meeting was inaugurated with the participation of distinguished national and international authorities, who officially welcomed the participants and presented the general objectives of the meeting. Within this framework, the CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, gave the inaugural lecture entitled “Challenges for Tax Reform”.
- Day 2: Main working day, in which an “carousel” type dynamic was applied. The delegations addressed five strategic topics at discussion tables generating a fruitful exchange of knowledge and practices that add value to each tax administration:1) Human resources. 2) Technology 3) Risk management and audit. 4) Institutional management. 5) Tax system and administration.
- Day 3: Closing session dedicated to presenting conclusions and final reflections, consolidating lessons learned and reinforcing commitments for future cooperation.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Mr. Mariano Rojo, Head of the Spanish Mission to CIAT. He was joined at the head table by Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, CIAT Executive Secretary, who expressed his gratitude to the hosts and shared his closing remarks; Ms. Carmen de Diego Fonseca, head of AECID programs in Uruguay; Mr. Gustavo González Amilivia, Director of the General Tax Directorate of Uruguay; and Mr. Luis Valdez Veras, Director General of Internal Taxes of the Dominican Republic, who officially announced the invitation to hold the 60th CIAT General Assembly in his country in 2026.
The activity is developed thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain (IEF) and the General Tax Directorate of Uruguay (DGI).
