From April 30 to May 4, 2018, a workshop organized by CIAT and UN, with the support of GIZ (German Cooperation), was held at the headquarters of the Tax Agency of Trinidad and Tobago, in the city of Port of Spain; it was addressed to the officials of said administration, on the Implementation of the changes introduced by the BEPS Project the Conventions Network of Trinidad and Tobago.

During the workshop, the main recommendations developed within the framework of the project were described; as well as different scenarios through which the provisions related to the agreements to avoid double taxation could be received in the tax treaties network of Trinidad and Tobago. For this, not only the scope of each of the treaties’ provisions that Trinidad and Tobago could implement was detailed, but also the manner in which they were included in the “Multilateral Instrument”. In relation to the latter, the interaction between the different substantive provisions, the compatibility rules, the options, the reservations and the respective notifications were described.

This workshop could be held thanks to the support of GIZ of Germany in the framework of the CIAT-GIZ cooperation agreement, as well as the CIAT-UN agreement, which allowed uniting the efforts contributing to strengthen the tax administrations of the region.
