CIAT delegation discusses cooperation opportunities with the Embassy of Spain in Guatemala

On July 14, 2025, CIAT Executive Secretariat officials met with authorities of the Embassy of Spain in Guatemala to evaluate priorities and opportunities for cooperation in tax policy and administration, to address the challenges imposed by the international economic, financial, and tax context.

Among the main conclusions, the need to support the development of tax administrations in low- and middle-income developing countries, to promote cooperation among peers, and to coordinate efforts among cooperating institutions to avoid duplication of efforts, generate synergies and ensure the continuity or sustainability of projects.

Spain, through AECID, AEAT, IEF and FIAP, is a very relevant actor in tax cooperation in Latin America and a strategic partner of CIAT in its capacity building actions.

We thank Ambassador María Clara Girbau for her warm reception and commitment to capacity building in tax matters in developing countries.
