Tegucigalpa, Honduras, September 8, 2026. The President of the Republic of Honduras, Nasry Asfura, welcomed an official mission from the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) to Tegucigalpa on Tuesday as part of a visit aimed at addressing issues of mutual interest to promote the development and strengthening of tax administrations, particularly the Honduran Revenue Administration Service (SAR).

SAR Minister Mario Zerón and advisor Cristian Erazo attended the meeting. The CIAT delegation consisted of Márcio F. Verdi, Executive Secretary; José Luis Martínez, Spain’s delegate to CIAT; Francisco Beiner, Project Consultant, and former Director of Operations at CIAT; and David Jerezano Carvajal, Project Manager.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the main challenges and opportunities currently facing tax administrations, as well as on areas in which international cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and technical assistance can help strengthen their institutional capacities.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss initiatives of interest to Honduras and explore opportunities for cooperation aimed at continuing to strengthen the SAR, drawing on the regional and international experience accumulated by CIAT and its member countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of maintaining high-level forums for dialogue and cooperation that enable the identification of areas for joint work and promote tax administrations that are increasingly modern, efficient, and focused on serving citizens.

This official visit is part of the cooperation initiatives that CIAT is promoting with its member countries to foster institutional strengthening, the exchange of best practices, and capacity building among the region’s tax administrations.
