CIAT met with members of the Network of Tax Organizations (NTO) to discuss the Network’s future

On September 4 and 5, 2025, representatives of ATAF, COTA, CREDAF, IOTA, CIAT and CATA met at the headquarters of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administration (CATA) to discuss the challenges of NTO for the coming years, with the aim of further strengthening the Network to achieve its objectives. Representatives of ATAIC, SGATAR and WATAF also participated virtually in the session for the presentation of conclusions.

The meeting reflected on its structure, governance mechanisms, operation, sustainability, and initiatives to make the most of the strengths of NTO members, whether to provide products and services to tax administrations or to contribute to the strengthening of the executive secretariats of the organizations that make up NTO.

NTO is a network of 10 international tax organizations (ATAF, CIAT, COTA, CATA, CREDAF, IOTA; ATAIC, SGATAR, WATAF and PITA) representing more than 193 jurisdictions, whose vision is to be “a global platform for strengthening tax systems for the well-being of citizens…” and its mission is to “build the capacity of NTO members and foster international tax collaboration and dialogue, supporting effective domestic revenue mobilization.

To date, the network has organized virtual meetings on critical issues for tax administrations (technology, tax control, regulation and control of crypto-assets, access to beneficial ownership information, among others) and face-to-face meetings (Technical Conferences); offered courses; developed documents (Manual for the establishment of women in tax networking and mentoring programs, Manual on Data Governance, Practical Guide for regional and international tax organizations, among others); and coordinated study visits for the exchange of experiences and strengthening of executive secretariats of the Network.

NTO has also recognized the importance and supported three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 5) Gender Equality, 13) Climate Action and 17) Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. The German Cooperation (BMZ/GIZ) and the European Union, through the International Tax Compact (ITC), have played a critical role in the consolidation of this network.
