Alejandro Mencías (Ecuador) is an economist who graduated from the Catholic University of Ecuador. He holds a Master’s in Economics from The University of Queensland (Australia) and is a PhD Candidate at the University of the Basque Country (EHU/UPV).

His work focuses on analyzing tax systems in Latin America from a tax-justice perspective, as well as on designing and strengthening cooperative ecosystems within the Social and Solidarity Economy aimed at the eco-social transition. He specializes in programming and data analysis with R and Python, tools he integrates to support research and evidence-based decision-making.

He is a member of Atukoop, a cooperative that promotes the principles of cooperativism, feminism, and the solidarity economy through projects in economic consulting, policy advocacy, communications, and data analysis.
