Within the framework of the Regional Project “Good Financial Governance in the SICA Member States”, implemented with the support of COSEFIN and the German Cooperation (GIZ/GOPA) and with the collaboration of CIAT, the Regional Forum on the “Use of Information Technologies to Enhance the Efficiency of the Tax Administrations” was held on December 3, 2020.

The crisis produced by COVID-19 has not only left thousands of companies without income and tens of thousands of workers without jobs, but also constitutes a serious risk to the fiscal stability of the countries. In view of this challenge, the aforementioned event was aimed at strengthening the institutional capacities of the officials belonging to the Ministries/Secretaries of Finance of the COSEFIN member countries, through the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to the use and implementation of information technologies to facilitate taxpayers’ compliance with their tax obligations, through the offer of online services and digital taxpayer assistance.

The event was attended by renowned international experts who addressed important issues such as taxpayer registration, tax solvency, electronic fiscal domicile, online training programs and taxpayer assistance through electronic channels.

A large number of representatives from Central American countries and the Dominican Republic participated in this activity, showing great interest in the topic, and sharing their concerns through numerous questions to the experts.

This activity allows concluding the need to advance on fundamental processes of the tax administrations through the use of technological tools, which allow simpler, more effective, and efficient procedures; satisfying the needs of taxpayers and tax administrations; especially in the current context.
