Executive Secretary participated in the anniversary of the Ombudsman of Costa Rica

The Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, presented a paper on “Tax morality in the administrations and its role in citizen morality”.
Last September 30, the CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, participated as special guest of the Anniversary of the Ombudsman of Costa Rica, in the event “Transparency as strategy against corruption”. This activity was organized by the Ombudsman jointly with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and UNDP, within the framework of promotion of the Interinstitutional Transparency Network, as well as the National Program for the Prevention and Struggle Against Tax Fraud, with the activity called: “Transparency as strategy against corruption”.
The general objective was to create awareness regarding the right of access to information of a public nature and such specific objectives as:
– Position Transparency as democratic strengthening instrument for reducing the levels of corruption.
– Show the mechanisms whereby the right of access to public information may be exercised.
– Motivate institutions to devote efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability.
– Disseminate the importance and need to develop a Transparency index in exercising the country’s public function.
– Position the Service Comptrollerships in issues of transparency and access to public information through the governing entity.

The activity was carried out at the National Auditorium and was headed by top level authorities such as Mrs. Jenny Phillips, Deputy Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ofelia Taitelbaum, Ombudsman of the Republic and Mrs. Laura Alfaro Maykall, Minister of National Planning and Economic Policy.
