On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the webinar presenting the Taxation and Gender Study, a joint initiative of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Finance of Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (SECOSEFIN), and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), was held with great success.
The welcoming remarks were made by Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, CIAT Executive Secretary; Federico Rivera, SECOSEFIN Executive Secretary; and, on behalf of GIZ, Sandra Stelzner. The study was presented by the consultants who developed it: Alejandro Mencías, Agustina O’Donnell and Noelia Méndez; and the webinar was moderated by the Director of Human Talent Development of the TAs, Alejandro Juárez.

The event brought together professionals from Latin American tax administrations, international organizations, and the public, who actively participated in the discussion on the importance of incorporating the gender perspective in the region’s tax systems.

The webinar, the consultants presented the main findings of the study, which seeks to be a useful technical tool to broaden the analytical horizon of tax administrations and strengthen their institutional capacities. They emphasized that moving towards gender-sensitive taxation is not only a matter of social justice, but also a key condition for improving the legitimacy, progressiveness, and effectiveness of tax systems.

The panelists agreed that tax administrations are in a strategic position to lead this process, contributing to the construction of fairer and more inclusive States.
