CIAT met with Maastricht University to discuss cooperation opportunities

In recent years, CIAT and the Maastricht Centre for Taxation (MCT) of Maastricht University (UM) have maintained a high level of cooperation. Among the most significant actions are the organisation of the meeting of the CIAT International Taxation Network at the University campus in Brussels in 2019, and the technical support of the MCT tax experts in the design of the templates for the collection of information and cases, the cases layout as well as the evaluation, feedback and editing of the anonymised cases with information provided by the tax administrations. In addition, an  LLM student performed an internship at CIAT and tax administration officials benefited from scholarships to study the Postgraduate Courses of International Taxation at UM Campus Brussels. The MCT also joined with scientific contributions the meetings of the CIAT Network of International Taxation in Antigua, Cartagena and Brussels.

With a view to continuing this cooperation, both institutions met on March 14 of this year in Maastricht to explore further actions and discuss initiatives in the field of international taxation and technology applied to tax management. They also discussed ideas on how to continue addressing the Database of Transnational Cases of Base Erosion agreeing in the publication by CIAT of the report to be finalized by the Principal Investigator Dr Esperanza Buitrago in coordination with CIAT, based on aggregated information of the referred Database in the cases reviewed by the MCT. The University will spread the information about internships available at CIAT to contribute to the development of initiatives.
