Alejandro Díaz Galaz

Alejandro Díaz Galaz is an expert in tax and customs compliance risk management, with more than 26 years of professional experience in both the public and private sectors. He is an Industrial Civil Engineer and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, with a specialization in Public Finance, from the University of Chile. He also holds a TADAT certification from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has specialized training in digital transformation, business intelligence, and public management.
He developed a large part of his career at the Chilean Internal Revenue Service (Servicio de Impuestos Internos – SII), where he held senior management positions in risk analysis, audit planning, and audit control, playing a key role in the implementation of the risk-based compliance management model and the intensive use of advanced analytics for the selection and prioritization of control actions. He also has experience at the Undersecretariat of Social Security and the National Customs Service of Chile.
Since 2018, he has worked as an international consultant for the World Bank, IMF, IDB, and CIAT, advising tax and customs administrations across Latin America on the design and implementation of risk management models, compliance improvement programs, taxpayer segmentation, and institutional strengthening. He has participated in missions in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil.
In the academic field, he has served as a graduate-level professor in public management and risk management, and currently acts as a tutor in CIAT’s Risk Management Program and as a lecturer in the Tax Analytics Diploma at the University of Chile. His areas of expertise include compliance risk management, advanced analytics applied to audit activities, digital transformation, and institutional capacity building.
