International Seminar On Mining Sector Tax Control

The Internal Revenue Service of Ecuador (SRI), with the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT)’ support, held in Quito during the third week of November, three events related to the Tax Control of the Mining Sector.

The international seminar held on November 17, counted on the participation of internationally renowned speakers from Peru, Chile and Ecuador. Apart from national participants related to the mining sector, the seminar was attended by officials from the tax administrations of Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The seminar discussed issues of great importance such as legal reforms in the mining sector, tax treatment of mining investments, control procedures as well as international taxation standards applied to the sector, among other topics. The technical course held from November 18 to 20, allowed the SRI officials and the officials coming from the tax administrations of the CIAT member countries, to go through these issues in depth. Finally, on November 21 a Citizens Forum was held on the same topic, with the participation of employers, unions, university students and professional associations.

With these activities, the Tax Administration of Ecuador supported by CIAT, aims to propitiate a space of discussion to exchange experiences with other countries in the region as well as to make known its management model.
